Posted: 6th May 2008
Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Teams based at Gorleston Police Station took to the streets on Friday night with a new recruit. Diesel a passive drugs dog. Diesel and his handler Pc Griffiths, who are based at North Walsham joined the teams on the sea front in Gorleston to mingle with members of the public who were attending a local night club. Diesel is trained to detect possession of drugs on anyone walking past him. As a result of the operation, 2 persons were arrested for possession of class A drugs and are currently on police bail. Inspector Paul McCarthy, who is in charge of the Gorleston Safer Neighbourhood Team commented "Drug use will not be tolerated in the night time economy and Diesel the dog is the latest addition in our range of option to catch offenders".
